[(Rebel-held areas of the Red Sea from Yemen to the US missile destroyer)]

US Navy guided missile destroyer USS Mason, two missiles were fired, while it was in international waters off the coast of Yemen on Sunday. Both ships were wounded in a missile attack on land and water.

"7 pm local time today (October 9), Red Sea, Yemen during routine handling both incoming missiles, the USS Mason in international waters off the coast identified a 60 minute period," Captain Jeff Davis, a Pentagon the spokesman said.

"Both missiles ship water before reaching effect," Davis said. "Our sailors were no injuries and no damage to the ship."

"We assess the missiles were launched from Yemen's Houthi-controlled areas," Davis said. Iranian-backed militia groups in 2015, a move that in neighboring Yemen against the Houthis seized in the Gulf led to military intervention.

"The United States is committed to ensuring freedom of navigation worldwide, and our ships and we can ensure the safety of our service members to take all necessary steps will continue."
